Geographical position of Belgrade

Belgrade lies on the bank of the Danube, the main river path that connects western and eastern Europe. When Rain-Main-Danube channel was first open for traffic (1992) it placed Belgrade in the central part of this important European river route: the North Sea-The Atlantic-The Black Sea. Mount Kosmaj (628m) and Avala (511m) are located near Belgrade.
