Sports in Belgrade

There are over a thousand sport venues in Belgrade. It hosted many important international sports events, such as European Basketball Championship in 2005, European Volleyball Championship in 2005, World Water polo Championship in 2005 and European Olympic youth festival in 2007.

Two largest football stadiums are Marakana (Red Star) and JNA Stadium (Partisan). Belgrade Arena is the venue used for basketball and volleyball matches, along with Sports Hall Pionir, while Tasmajdan Sports Center usually hosts water polo matches.

Belgrade has its own island, Ada Ciganlija, the biggest sports and recreational complex on the river. This is the place that most Belgrade inhabitants visit during hot summer days. It has a 7 km long beach and different sports facilities suitable for golf, rugby, football, basketball, volleyball, baseball and tennis. If you are into extreme sports you can choose from bungee jumping, waterskiing and paintball. Ada Ciganlija also offers paths for bicycle riding, walking or jogging.
